Dan Morgan, Trainee Engineer, Imtech Engineering Services London and South

Dan Morgan3

I began working at Imtech in June 2012 as an apprentice mechanical engineer on a four year training scheme. When I first started I was guided through the company processes and our project delivery system and given tasks to complete with a deadline.

I am now responsible for organising my own work and take full responsibility for completing it on time. Although, if needed, I have full support from those around me including Project Managers, Mechanical Engineers and Construction Managers.

Has the company supported you in gaining any qualifications?

Yes, I have completed a BTEC National Diploma Level 3 course (2 years) at City of Westminster College and I am currently working towards my HNC/HND Level 4 (3 years) at London Southbank University.

Describe a typical day in your current role?

It varies depending on the stage that the project is at, I am usually in touch with our suppliers ensuring quote compliance and deliveries are on time. I provide product and drawing information to plumbers/fitters, liaising with clients and the site team to ensure that we deliver to our client’s expectations.

How do you make a difference to our clients?

I always develop a good working relationship with clients. Through the experience I’ve gained, I have been able to offer advice on more efficient and cost effective solutions on projects.

What is the most fulfilling aspect of your role?

Every time I walk onto site I see the work that I did in the office ‘come to life’. It could be an area of pipework that I laid out or an item of plant that I selected installed, it gives me a real sense of achievement

What makes you proud to work for Imtech?

We have real, down to earth company values that we can all relate to. It’s also a very personable company to work for, this is extended to our clients and supply chain. Imtech has a good reputation which is clearly recognised.

If you met a potential employee, what would you tell them about why you enjoy working for Imtech?

I have previously and will continue to recommend Imtech as a company to work for. This is because of the great attitude of Imtech’s employees from experienced Engineers to Project Managers and upwards to the Senior Leadership Team; I really like the professional manner in which the company operates.

I have made huge progress in my knowledge and understanding of building services systems, the construction industry as a whole and my people skills. This is because I am given responsibility to take decisions, manage my own time, tasks and various aspects of the project. Having said that, if I feel that I need guidance or help with a particular task there is always someone available to ask.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I have always been interested in mechanics, building and fixing things. Most of my weekend is spent under the bonnet of mine or a friend’s car and when the weather permits, you will find me on a motorbike, on or off road!
