Ian Bolster, Business Development Manager, Imtech Engineering Services London and South

Ian Bolster

My career with Imtech has been very varied, from my first role in 1996 as a Draughtsman through to my current job as Business Development Manager. I gained invaluable experience in the business and the industry as a Project Engineer and then Design Engineer, working both in the office and on construction sites.

During my time in the Engineering Department the company supported me in my studies at Southbank University. I initially gained a Higher National Diploma in Building Services and then completed a BEng in Energy Engineering.

Describe a typical day in your current role?

Although it differs from day to day, essentially it is a mix of meetings with main contractors, consultants, quantity surveyors and project teams. These can be for reviewing current workload, getting information on tender opportunities or for business planning. I also regularly attend networking events, which is a key requirement for Business Development.

How do you make a difference to our clients?

I have created a solid link between the business and our clients, ensuring they can discuss and engage with Imtech on future opportunities.

What is the most fulfilling aspect of your role?

Finding a good opportunity from the market and following it through to tender stage and ultimately, winning the project.

What makes you proud to work for Imtech?

For me, it’s the people and also the fact that we have developed the business to where it is today and that each and every one of us has had a part to play in its success.

If you met a potential employee, what would you tell them about why you enjoy working for Imtech?

There are great career opportunities, good people and a friendly and professional culture.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy cycling, running, walking and playing music, especially anything to do with drumming.
