Maria Gabaldon, Project Manager, Imtech Engineering Services London & South
‘I expressed my career goal of becoming a Project Manager from day one at Imtech. I’m proud to say that through hard work and with the support of the business I achieved that goal.’
What led you to where you are today?
I worked in construction in Spain. When I came over to the UK I took a role with Imtech as a Document Controller, as my qualifications and experience from Spain were not recognised here.
What skills do you think are needed to be successful?
The main one for me is people skills. A mix of being a good listener, being assertive, calm and able to deal with different characters, all whilst dealing with issues that arise throughout the project and caring about the needs of others.
What motivates you?
Setting project goals, developing a plan, working through it, working with the team to successfully deliver a project to a satisfied client.
What do you most enjoy about your role?
I love to see a project come to life, from drawings to the tangible installation in a building. Working with people who have different backgrounds.
What advice would you give to someone starting their career?
Never give up on your dream. Determination and hard work will get you far. Be ready to take opportunities when they are offered. Make sure you have a good work/life balance.
What do you enjoy most about working at Imtech?
Imtech has always felt like a family to me. I believe this helps everyone to work better as a team. Also working on a variety of projects in different sectors is very interesting.
