Centrica North Sea Rough Platform


Centrica’s North Sea Rough Platform is situated off the east coast of Yorkshire.  The natural gas storage facility is capable of storing approximately 70% of the UK’s gas capacity, and can supply 10% of its’ peak gas demand.  As such, it is an important part of the UK’s infrastructure.

We supplied two custom built air handling units and associated condensing units.  These replaced the original components that had reached the end of their useful life.  The new units were specifically designed to deliver the original performance requirements while fitting the existing space envelope and ducting connections.

Project Seer

Chevron Upstream Europe

Chevron Upstream Europe (CUE) is responsible for the exploration and extraction of oil in the North Sea.  An internal review indicated the existing processes for data capture and reporting were potentially hindering employee productivity.

The aim of Project Seer was to develop a real-time IT infrastructure that delivers ‘one version of the truth’. This was achieved by extracting specific data and events from dozens of different sources, delivering it to appropriate people and business units, and enabling them to support continuous improvement across the whole of the business. A wider aim was to help enable transformational change across Chevron Upstream Europe (CUE).

As the strategic delivery partner, we delivered an OSIsoft PI System solution as part of the integrated system architecture.  To support this, we also provided bespoke software development, testing, installation and project management services.

Centrica Storage Data Historian

Centrica Storage Ltd

We implemented a data historian solution to enable engineers at the Rough Gas Storage facility to make more informed judgements that would enhance core business operations and deliver real cost savings.

We implemented an OSIsoft PI System infrastructure to facilitate the automation of data acquisition and reporting processes and the streamlining communication between sites through a consistent view of process and performance data.  The solution provides genuine automation of monitoring and reporting thus developing and improving internal processes.


Aker Solutions

We were engaged by Aker Solutions to assist in the software development of a tool called Riglogger. Used for making real time and historic equipment data available from both offshore and onshore assets, Riglogger creates better performance and equipment condition data. This provides Aker Solutions and its clients with more informed insight into equipment  status in their North Sea portfolio.

We provided expert consultation and advice in developing the system architecture required as part of the OSIsoft PI System solution – and their usage – to drive real-time data visualisation.



With headquarters in Switzerland, Petroplus is a leading independent refiner and supplier of unbranded petroleum products in Europe. Coryton, in Cardiff, is the largest refinery in the Petroplus portfolio, and its efficient operation is fundamental to the continued success of the company.

Following a joint workshop highlighting the benefits of the OSIsoft PI System, we implemented a PI HA (High Availability) solution in order to provide improved data resilience and automatic failover in the event of a failure of the current central PI server or similar eventualities.

Dairy Processing and Manufacturing Facility

Glanbia Foods

Glanbia Foods, Dairy Processing and Manufacturing Facility in Kilkenny Ireland is one of the largest and most up-to-date of its kind in Europe. Covering 24,597 square metres, the equivalent of three and a half football pitches, the facility includes administration, laboratory and production buildings, along with a raw materials storage warehouse and dairy ingredients intake building.

Imtech Suir Engineering’s scope of work included the complete electrical installation across the state-of-the-art facility including the 38kv substation and a wastewater pre-treatment facility with neutralisation tanks.

Filter Membrane Manufacturing Facility

Merck Millipore

Millipore’s new filter membrane manufacturing facility at Carrigtwohill, near Cork sees the pharmaceutical giant relocate both its research and development and main production capacity from Massachusetts, United States to Ireland. The technology being utilised at the new plant is state-of-the-art and has been created from many years of expertise and experience.

Imtech Suir Engineering provided the technical services at the facility including power distribution, fire alarms, gas detection systems, instrumentation and controls, process automation and the building management system.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility

Allergan Pharmaceuticals

Allegan Pharmaceuticals Westport campus is a state-of-the-art Manufacturing, Filling and Packaging operation, producing close to 800 million units of product on an annual basis.

Imtech undertook the design, fabrication, installation and certification of two cooling water operations including; pre-treatment system to ensure the primary cooling water system met the required water quality specification and cooling plant skid. To ensure the installation caused as little impact on production at the facility as possible, our approach was to pre-fabricate the cooling system skids off site. This greatly improved delivery by shortening the programme and limiting risk to the plant.

Biotechnology Manufacturing Facility


Grange Castle is Pfizer’s largest single investment in Ireland, a €1.8 billion biotechnology facility located on a 90-acre site in County Dublin, with buildings and facilities extending to more than one million square feet. The development is one of the biggest integrated biotechnology plants in the world.

The major challenge on this project to extend the pharmaceutical facility, was undertaking the electrical installation, testing and commissioning whilst in a live, working environment.  The team had to ensure that day-to-day operations remained unaffected throughout, as interfaces between the existing electrical and instrumentation systems and new installations were connected.

High Containment Facility

EirGen Pharma

EirGen Pharma is a world-leader in the development, registration, manufacture and supply of high-potency pharmaceutical products to global markets. Based in Waterford, Ireland, it partners with top pharmaceutical companies and uses state-of-the-art high-containment facilities to develop and supply life-saving medicines around the world.

Imtech was selected as the principal contractor to construct a new GMP high-containment facility. The expansion involved the fit-out of existing units adjacent to the current facility, internal modifications to the existing facility and the construction of a new circulation corridor, a two-storey reception building and a substation.  The project also involved upgrading the existing services and provision of new services, with structures being assembled off-site.  Imtech was responsible for all the civil, structural and architectural services – as well as the mechanical and electrical design and installation – through to testing and commissioning.
